What Should You Look For When Comparing Illustration Services?

I’m curious how other authors choose an illustrator when the story is already finished. I’ve looked through portfolios, but sometimes an artist’s best work isn’t necessarily the right fit for the characters or age group in the book. I’d probably look at similar projects first, then ask about revisions, deadlines, and the final file types. With illustration services, what matters more to you: matching the style or finding someone who understands the story?
